Lice Home Remedies
Lice and nits are a touchy subject to talk about. Many people when confronted with the task of killing these horrible creatures tend to get disgusted at the thought. Before we talk about home remedies for lice, we should first tackle what they are.
Lice are parasites – insects that make their homes in our hair and scalp. Blood is there only source of food. Direct contact with people infected is how their spread. Anyone, regardless of what they say can contract lice. Personal hygiene does not have anything to with it. You cannot talk about lice unless you talk about nits. Nits are the eggs of lice, and are yellow to white in color. Hatching within seven days of being laid they are found on the hair shaft.
In adulthood, lice are the size of sesame seeds. They have six legs, and are usually gray or white. If there is anything good to say about these wretched creatures, it is the fact that they can only crawl and not jump. Without a host, lice can only live for about two days.
Now that we have talked about lice let us get to the home remedies. Depending on which remedies you use, some work great while others may fail to kill them. Mayonnaise is a remedy commonly used in the hopes of smothering them. As good as this remedy may sound it does not work. Mayonnaise will only get you into a nasty sticky predicament. Another smother technique uses the help of Vaseline or grease. This may work, but it could take a long time. Smother techniques you should stay away from altogether.
You will need remedies that work in order to get rid of lice. Remember that everyone in the household will have to undergo treatment. The infestation will come back if not everyone undergoes the treatment. Wash all clothing, and clean everything that the infested person has touched. Remember, the little critters could survive two days without a host – making it crucial for you to clean your whole household while undergoing treatment.
