The Right Time to Drink Water
Many people I know always ask me how much water they should drink. I personally drink a gallon of water every day. Most people cannot see themselves drinking that much water daily, so they usually want to know when is the best time to drink water.
It is better to drink water between meals. Drinking water during meals will dilute the digestive juices. Your digestive system must then manufacture more of these juices in order to raise the concentration to the level necessary to process your food, and this puts a strain on the system. Your stomach also has to be quite warm in order to process food.
Anytime you drink cold water with your food, you cool down your stomach and its contents and your body will have to rewarm everything in order to complete the digestive cycle. Water that is cool but not ice cold leaves an empty stomach in about ten minutes. The best time to drink water is from an hour or two after one meal to about fifteen minutes before the next meal.
Pure soft water is the best water to drink. Hard water carries with it certain salts that must be eliminated by the kidneys, causing them to work much harder. Some soft water contains sodium, which can be hazardous to health. Water obtained from a water softener that uses brine or salt should not be used for drinking or cooking. Some naturally soft waters are also high in sodium. Your local water department or county health department can apprise you of the mineral content of the water coming into your home.
Whatever you do – you should not drink soft drinks. They usually contain sugar or an artificial sweetener, along with artificial flavors and colors. Why expose yourself to unneeded chemicals?
A good habit to obtain is to start the day with a glass of water. Take another glass midmorning and still another in the middle of the afternoon. End the day with a glass of water before going to bed. If the weather is hot, increase the amount and frequency of your drinks.
