The Benefits of Exercise

Here are some benefits that you get from exercise:

- It tones and strengthens every organ and system of your body.

- It helps relax tensions, allowing you to sleep longer and better.

- It strengthens your self-control, increases your mental efficiency, and enhances your feeling of well-being.

- It decreases depression and anxiety.

- It lowers emotional stress.

- It lowers blood fats and increases good cholesterol (HDL), thus helping to reduce your risk of coronary heart disease and stroke.

- It decreases insulin resistance; aids in the control of diabetes (type 1 and type II).

- It helps relieve constipation.

- It protects you against osteoporosis.

- It increases your endurance for both work and play.

- It lengthens your life expectancy (delays the onset of aging)

For each hour of physical activity, you can expect to live that hour over and live one or two hours over that. If cancer were to be eliminated as a cause of death, the years of life gained would be about the same as those obtained from a regular exercise program.
